Alpine Accentor (Prunella collaris)

12/27/1909

.- This morning, Garrido Santi and I are willing to climb to the top of some mountains in order to highlight any Alpine Accentor (Prunella collaris) . After these days of cold and rain expected to quietly, watching these beautiful birds that come down from our mountains more northern latitudes. Shortly after sunrise we have agreed to Eagle Peak (Segovia) , but there have not detected any individual. Other years have seen themselves in this place.

Later we moved to Pico Negrete (Utiel) , but no such luck here. We have seen a specimen that has quickly pushed stones hidden by the strong winds that whipped this morning the crest of the mountain. The observation has been brief, and after that has not recurred.

From there we headed to Pico Rope (Chera) , and then we have seen in the top one Alpine Accentor foraging on the ground. Then we saw another copy. Of these, we have captured for banding one of them, which will send photos. It was a young ( coverts molt limit between primary and alula with respect to large coverts, and generally somewhat worn plumage ). The adults have fresh plumage due to complete change after breeding season and therefore have no color difference between primary coverts, large coverts and alula.

On the road between and Chera Sot de Chera we have seen a copy to the height of Diving Reservoir, on the same road. Message

PRESS RELEASE: RINGS AND HUNTERS IN

Hunter l'Albufera de València

Environment starts campaign to collect rings in the Parc Natural de l'Albufera

23/11/2009

The Department of Environment has initiated collection campaign rings in the species of game birds the Parc Natural de l'Albufera .

The objective of this initiative, explained the park's director, José Segarra is " improve collaboration of hunters in the management and conservation of waterbirds in the Parc Natural de l'Albufera . "Provide the rings of birds hunted can obtain valuable information that usually is not usually reported," added Segarra .

The park director has emphasized that the banding of birds represents "one of the most efficient tools to improve knowledge of many of the patterns of birds ." is a scientific method of marking wildlife that involves placing a numbered ring in leg of a bird, so that the same specimen can be identified and recognized.

recovery rings placed in birds allows determine aspects such as migration routes, wintering areas and places of origin of different species, as well as longevity, survival rate and reproductive success. Species

hunting

During hunting season in Parc Natural de l'Albufera , many of the thousands of waterfowl each year are shot down sedentary and born in this wetland, but are largely migratory and from other regions Europe and western Asia .

know the information provided the rings bearing the birds collected by hunters to calculate the survival rates , the proportions of age and sex, as well as regions from wintering birds , elements necessary for management action to ensure the continuity of their populations and to ensure the future exercise of hunting.

"Communicating the registration of a ring is, anyway, an exercise of responsibility by all that we care about the birds and conservation. With a small individual contribution can make a big improvement for all, "said the director of the Natural Parc Albufera, José Segarra .

The discovery of a ring may contact the Technical Management Office of the Parc Natural de l'Albufera (96 1620101 / 96 1620333 / 96 1627345 or e-mail to parque_albufera@gva.es ). Another option is to go through the Internet to the Office of Migratory Species the Ministry of Environment.

LALBUFERA Bétera BANDING STATION

Little Owl (Athene noctua)

.- 11.22.1909 Bétera, El Camp de Turia, Valencia

Yesterday we made a new day of ringing in our station Bétera ( El Camp de Turia ). The day was not bad, except for the presence of hunters , their hounds and "trace" features. As all know bander, banding and dogs are incompatible (more if you are hunting dogs), so when you meet everyone in the field unpleasant things happen to the dogs go through the networks of the rings side by side and let as I recall the fabrics made a Gruyère cheese.

For the strictly " birdlike," the most interesting has been the high number of birds captured (106 banding and 10 controls of 15 different species). To highlight the large number of reed bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) banded (13) to an interior location, since this species is rare outside coastal wetlands in our territory. In fact, half of the catch have done in an abandoned olive grove, near a ravine.

Before dawn, thanks to the untimely early start we've hit, we had captured a European owl (Athene noctua) . Monica has made some photos of the day but have it.

Other interesting catches were 2 copies of wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) , rare in Camp de Turia outside forest environments. These wintering birds are in the area, so they probably have fallen from a mountainous area or perhaps from further away (from Central "?).

Another interesting catch has been that of a warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) adult behind in their migration. A ringing too late for the species, and also out of a wetland, which are always much more abundant.

Moreover, a good "mosquito " thanks to the complaint, it never fails, and several catches varied as detailed below:

As you see, in the last two weeks have ringed nearly 200 birds. Furthermore, in our resort 10/31/1909 of Bétera we recover a blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) with Belgian ring. The strange thing is that this same individual and was controlled in the same place two years ago, specifically on 11/12/1907. That is, two years after it was controlled, again winter in the same place.

Pimples Growing On Scalps

A TRAVELER Tit

Tit (Parus major)

8:08:09 -

Our colleague Setting Matilla of LLEBEIG Banding Group, tells us the recovery a banded bird. Most surprising of all is the species involved: a tit (Parus major) , which is "theoretically settled."

The bird was ringed as an adult male (M4) on 10/09/2005 in Macastre ( València), and retrieved later by ringing Ringing Group Parus on 08/05/2008 in West Park (Madrid) after 1062 days and a straight-line distance of 277 km!!

The tit is considered by most sedentary bird guides in Spain. However, thanks to which banded individuals have subsequently been recovered, we detected some weak dispersive movements entity. I have not thoroughly reviewed the recoveries obtained for this species in Spain , but I could see in the databases of the Office of Migratory Species (OEM) not exceed in the best of 30-40 km. Therefore, the recovery of Setting is of exceptional interest because demonstrates the existence of migratory / dispersive a certain entity in this species.

One of the most interesting information (and there are few well documented) on the movement of coal is what appears in the work of Alfredo Noval: "... in the fall and winter erratic and it seems that many young females are subject to scattered movements of larger radius than males. These remain in the place of birth throughout the year and most move very little. The ringing and recoveries same place on consecutive days and months to say this. " Obviously, our recovery does not follow the pattern described by Novak .

then says: "Many coal extrapirenaicos winter here. The entrance at both ends of the Pyrenees it shows well, but much less output. From the end of September migrants arriving to stay in Iberia through February and March. Feature pronounced in this species are outbreaks in some years affect northern populations ...".

The reports of recoveries of banded birds that I have (a few), I could not find any recovery foreign tit . However, there may be whatsoever. I will continue investigating. Yes I have found, for example, one of tit (Parus caeruleus) , akin to the previous species, corresponding to a bird ringed in Lithuania and recovered in Abrera (Barcelona) . If some (or many) tits are able to come to our country from lands as far away as Lithuania I do not see why a coal can not do it too. Perhaps

fellow Grup PIT-ROIG, connoisseurs of the species since they have worked long and hard with her in the orange groves of Sagunto , can provide some information interest. Congratulations

Setting by so great recovery, and see if that encourages you to continue banding.

Coal Tit (Peripatus ater)

08/08/1909 -

As a person involved in the " carboneril " For such recovery I have not had to Sagunto (one of my colleagues who are also in the forum can correct me if I'm wrong) and see what it has been ringed by coal more than 10 years. Pepe Greno recovered in the Sierra Mariola during the winter, an individual ater Periparus ringed in Red Font by Toni Zaragozí . No two places are far beyond the 11 km in a straight line. Another calved (can not remember species) was indigo in the Sierra de Maigmó by Toni Zaragozí , and I think he got it back in the Red Font . All within the range that Toni commented . So, it is quite surprising that information retrieval.

LIVE VIA WEB BANDING

06/08/2009 -

From Grup l'Ullal Ornitològic and Ringing Group Pit-Roig we wanted to give a twist this information live (or at least almost live) on banding campaigns, and we enabled a new section on our website about the campaign has just begun banding Natural Park Pego-Oliva .

visiting this address you can learn on a daily (or so we hope) the results of different days of banding. We do not have developed banding days swallow (well, at the time of writing, my friends go at slaughtering birds loaded networks) and nightjar brown and gray (starting this Friday 9 )

hope that this initiative, in these weeks of hard migration for birds , we can all be a little more closer to knowing through scientific ringing which birds pass and they pass.

Soon this section will also be enabled for VOLCAM we are developing in collaboration with the Llebeig Ringing Group and under the tutelage of SVO , banding swallows roosting in the Natural Park of Turia.

What Is The Pink Sauce In Hibachi

"PIQUITORTA" in Gudar

crossbill (Loxia curvirostra)

01/08/1909 -

Today we have done a session of ringing in our season saw Gúdar . Once again (and you go a few this year), there has been a " piquitortà " with the result of 83 crossbills (Loxia curvirostra) ringed. It's funny because we have over 400 "piquis" Gúdar ringed this year and we have only obtained control, indicating, first, that there are plenty of birds this season (have had to raise it), and secondly possibly because many are dispersed after birth and do not return to drinking because they no longer are in the area.

Indeed, we have set a new record: the biggest number of crossbills captured in a single round of access to networks: 62 individuals at once into a fountain!.

catches also include Greenfinch serrano (Carduelis citrinella), with 15 individuals. And speaking of citrinella , emphasize that we have recovered a man who was ringed by LLEBEIG 11/07/1907 in the source of the river Arcos (Arcos de las Salinas, Sierra de Javalambre) . This bird was ringed controlled I nstitute Català d'Ornithology (ICO) last 07/15/1909 breeding in Andorra (Pyrenees). This move demonstrates a fact we already suspected: that birds Pyrenees breeding population wintering in the Iberian .

the rest of species, little comment: 1 Short-toed Treecreeper (Certhia brachydactyla) , 1 coal tit (Parus ater) and 2 chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs) , all young of the year.

Skin Mottling In 1year Old

postnuptial VI CAMPAIGN IN VULTURE Pego-Oliva

17/07/1909 -

As usual, summer approaches and the possibility of environmental volunteering . And again a summer classic. For the sixth consecutive year (how time flies) from the Ullal l'Ornitològic Grup and Grup d'Anellament Pit-Roig coordinates the campaign in step postnuptial banding in the magnificent setting of Park Natural Pego-Oliva marsh every day during the months of August and September.

find all the information on the website of group Pit-Roig ( www.uv.es / pitorig ). In advance, mention that you will continue the most successful sessions last year were among the volunteers: the ringing of necked Nightjar (Caprimulgus ruficollis) , European nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus) and owl (Athene noctua ) . Also, every Wednesday will develop the usual ringing day swallows. No more I tell you, just remember that volunteering is open to volunteers - ringers as volunteers - assistants.

RING APPEARS IN SWITZERLAND

Vulture (Gyps fulvus)

Mediterraneo

A journey of 800 miles to find food

Appears in Switzerland a griffon vulture that was marked in 2005 in Castellon.

24/06/2009

RD

800 km the distance he had to go a vultures in search of food. The bird, which had been marked in the province of Castellón in 2005, appeared last day 16 in the Swiss town of Mannried . "The displacement of this vulture is exceptional because it is an adult," he said yesterday the English researcher Álvaro Camiña , member of the European working group vultures. And, unlike the young or immature adult vultures have as their principal aim the reproduction and breeding, so they do not usually make these trips.

According to
Camina, the cause of the trip could be lack of food in their place of residence, due to the disappearance in many parts of the carcass that used to feed, by the application of the regulations entered into force to stop mad cow disease.

According to data provided by English researcher, the vulture was tagged in the north of Castellón on September 6, 2005, in a monitoring program of this kind led by the Consell .

The presence of vultures English or from other countries Israel Mediterranean and Croatia or in countries of northern and central Europe it is common for many years between May and June. But in general, as Camiña , has always been birds in their first years of life, teenagers who still have no partner and are not subject to any breeding colony.

Vultures in a garbage dump in the Pyrenees, in July 2009.
06/25/1909

Let me share some thoughts on the thread of the news published on these vultures. In my opinion this article is just another example of journalistic sensationalism with some hints of media opportunities, drawing on the Pisuerga passing through Valladolid, mounted an alleged news without more data than the very fact that a vulture marked Castellón is resighted in Switzerland no more.

In line with the news me several questions arise: for example, who says that the vulture bred in Castellón or any of the colonies the Iberian as to say that "the vulture necessarily Castellón " and therefore has shifted from Spain Switzerland up for having to eat? Could it not be a vulture Catalan or French who came to Castellón one day to eat outside the breeding season (when he was captured in fact) and have returned safely to an area close to their colonies of origin with good food availability as the Alps ? another, how no one has taken account of the period of time (3 plus years) elapsed between capture and recapture?, another one, what about subpopulations of vultures Catalunya and the many reintroduction projects SE France ? This might not belong to any of these vulture metapopulations (which is the usual population dynamics in this species) and move quietly through a large geographical area?, And then, lastly, is it appears that there is nothing food throughout the area between Castellón and central Europe ? "Cows are no longer in the Pyrenees , neither sheep nor pig farms or for anyone who does not comply with the rules of no animal shed on the field? Suffice a field trip to verify that it is not. Perhaps in the offices you see the issue very clear, but fortunately is still depositing carrion in the field despite the Brussels bureaucrats and their acolytes English contenders.

I think we do disservice to conservation when one uses this information to generate a supposed news and lend a pan ember of their interests. No way detracts from the need to keep our vultures (all of course!) I think there should be a little more serious to say these things with the firmness with which they are established. Taking the reasoning the absurd, if the vultures have been sighted in winter, could we not say that he had gone skiing in Switzerland? or better why not say that vultures more like cows English Swiss cows? (Say something absurd but spurious type at a time).

have to be serious .. at least I think so.

As has been doing for five years, staff from Protection Service Nature (Seprona) of Command of the Guardia Civil in Alicante, together with teachers of Biology University Miguel Hernández (UMH) of Elche and technical Department of Environment, Water, Planning and Housing have collaborated for several days, and taking advantage of the spring breeding season in the banding of raptors, location and identification the position of their nests.

From Seprona reported yesterday that the activities have been developed within the natural setting of Sierra de Escalona , declared SCI (Site of Community Importance) and SPA (Special Protection Area for Birds ) - through various European standards and in the future will be declared as Natural Park of Valencia.

SEPRONA

Protected species

These activities "of benefit to the birds of prey, mainly owls and others for their uniqueness and special grade protection, are within the Valencia catalog protected species, thereby resulting in the creation of a census that studies and promotes their development, the control habitats and the factors involved, both in play as the evolution of the species ", said in a statement the same sources.

This control made during this time helps prevent "the possible plundering of eggs had been detected, apparently for purposes of reproduction for use in falconry of irregular practices," they concluded.
